Selection committees are often looking for potential, passion, and a unique perspective, not just a perfect checklist. Let them be the ones to tell you no.
The anatomy of a winning essay
A generic essay that could have been written by anyone will be discarded immediately. Your personal statement needs to clearly articulate your "why." Why do you want this specific opportunity? What specific problem in your community do you want to solve with the skills you will gain? Avoid generic statements like "I want to change the world." Be precise: "I want to build software that improves agricultural supply chains in the provinces."
- Show, do not just tell. Instead of saying you are a leader, describe a time you organized a study group.
- Keep your formatting clean and strictly adhere to word counts.
- Always have at least two people review your application for clarity and grammar before submitting.
